Eremophila is a large genus of Australian plants of which a number of species play a prominent role in Aboriginal plant medicines.  Numerous novel compounds, including many with antimicrobial properties, have been isolated and characterised from the genus.  In a time of growing antibiotic resistance, it is imperative that such abundant sources of previously uncharacterised natural products be examined.  Despite progress to date, the potential of Eremophila seems far from being exhausted.  A rapid characterisation and antibacterial screening approach to Eremophila methanol extractions was utilised to test over 90 species, subspecies, crosses and cultivars from a private Eremophila collection.  The results confirm the still to be unlocked potential of Eremophila to provide novel antibacterial agents.
